A true backcountry avalanche awareness course.
You will be heli-lifted into the mountains for four days of backcountry touring and travel skills, mixed with avalanche awareness, decision making and safety. Guides are there to instruct, educate and ensure your safety along the way.
At the end of your journey you will feel ready to be a competent member of a touring group.
This is a four day course, accredited by the Mountain Safety council, is for skiers and boarders wanting to advance their avalanche education and skills in the backcountry.
The aim is to fully immerse course participants in the mountain environment, with the all four days of course spent in alpine and high alpine zones, with Mountainhut.nz as base camp.
Preparation prior to departing on this course will include resources and online education to be completed before the course date and includes an off snow safety briefing at Small Planet the evening before day one begins.
Mt Larkins has 360 aspects ensuring we get the best of daily snow conditions and move through the terrain on offer. Participants should be able to ride comfortably in a variety of off piste conditions and we recommend prior Avalanche Awareness education (1 day, or introduction courses) to get the most out of your time spent on this course.
