Check out the variety of experiences that we are offering between our two Winter trips specials.

These guided trips suit either single (put your name down to join a group) or group bookings (make up your own friend group).

Group size is a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 5 participants.

We are offering an enjoyable 1 nights accommodation in our high alpine 6 bunk hut with warm fire and meals provided.

Access to and from the hut is by helicopter.

These trips are ideal for a family group or any individual within a wide age range from youth to senior.

SHE TOURING Backcountry COURSE for women

4 days 3 nights, August 18 -21

Hone your skills by going touring with course instructors  Jane Morris and Tintin Kelly.

Enjoy run circuits in the high alpine zone of Whakaari Conservation Area at the head of Lake Wakatipu with on snow accommodation at 1900m in 8 bunk modern hut with woodburner.

Main meals and helicopter flights  – drop off and pick up from hut / staged from Glenorchy Airstrip.

Learn about gear, touring technique, route planning,  en route safety assessment, group heuristics, weather call / snow pack predictions, transceiver use / rescue, how to dig a snow cave, tenting on snow.
To be able to go on this course you should be a competent off piste skier with moderate fitness and have  good working order ski touring and safety gear. Note – can hire this equipment from Small Planet Sports  16 Shotover Street Queenstown.

AVALANCHE COURSE

4 days 3 nights  Sept 12 – 15

Based at hut , heli access , meals provided. ASC Level 2 course – Tintin Kelly Instructing, endorsed by the NZ MountainSafety Council.
This is course is full.

SNOW SHOE trips

Single day and overnight trips are possible.
Get in touch to find out about if there may be trips operating June – August.
From $NZ 895 pp for groups 4 to 5 pax.
Suits guests of varied experience levels , including not having been on snow before .
Instruction and gear provided, heli flights and catering.

Trips will only commence after receiving a minimum of four participants.

Alternative dates will be offered if we do not get the minimum number of participants for your first date choice.

What is your cancellation policy?

Mountainhut.nz has the descretion to change or cancel any trip at any time. This could be due to adverse weather forcast, cloud, wind or snow melt effecting river flow on some trails.
